No tools required. The PIONEER tank uses a snap-ring top cap with a red pressure-relief button, so the entire cartridge change takes a few minutes with your bare hands.
Flush before use. After installing the new cartridge, flush the system for 10 minutes before using the water. This clears any fine media particles from the new cartridge.
  1. Put the system into bypass using the bypass manifold (your house keeps water during the swap)
  2. Press the red pressure-relief button on the top cap to relieve tank pressure
  3. Drain the tank through the 3/8" PEX drain valve
  4. Pull the snap ring and lift off the top cap - no tools needed
  5. Lift out the spent cartridge and set it aside for the manufacturer take-back program
  6. Insert the new ATOMUS PF8 cartridge and reseat the cap and snap ring
  7. Slowly open the bypass back to service and check for leaks
  8. Flush for 10 minutes before using the water. If you have the metered tank, reset the meter to the new cartridge capacity

Replacement Timing

  • Metered tank Replace at the gallon target. The LED metered cap counts gallons used and signals as the cartridge nears capacity. When it reaches the target set for your PFAS level, replace the cartridge. This is the most reliable method because PFAS breakthrough is invisible.
  • Bypass tank Replace on a schedule from your water test. Most households land at roughly 12-36 months: at typical PFAS levels around 100 ppt the cartridge is rated 350,000+ gallons, and at very high levels (3,000+ ppt) it is rated 100,000+ gallons. Higher PFAS and heavier water use mean earlier replacement.
  • Annual Test the treated water for PFAS to confirm performance and catch early breakthrough. A PFAS water test kit is the only way to verify, because PFAS have no color, taste, or smell.
Do not run the cartridge past capacity. PFAS breakthrough cannot be seen, tasted, or smelled. If you are unsure where your cartridge stands, call us with your water test results and household size and we will estimate remaining life.
Take-back recycling program: spent cartridges are returned to the manufacturer, where the captured PFAS is extracted and destroyed and the media is regenerated for reuse. The forever chemicals your cartridge collected never reach a landfill or leach back into groundwater. Contact us when you order and we will help arrange the return.

The Right Replacement Cartridge for Your Pioneer PFAS System

Genuine ATOMUS PF8: Non-Detect PFAS Removal, No-Tool Swap, Recycled When Spent

The ATOMUS PF8 (CT-5020-0640RD-PF8) is the replacement cartridge for the Enpress PIONEER 8 by 40 cartridge tank, the vessel at the heart of our Pioneer PFAS Removal System in both its bypass and metered configurations. It is the genuine PFAS-selective adsorption cartridge the system was designed around, with NSF/ANSI 61 certified media that removes 8 specific PFAS chemicals (PFOA, PFOS, PFHpA, PFNA, PFHxS, PFBS, GenX, and PFDA) to non-detect levels below 1 ng/L. Cartridge life depends on your PFAS concentration and water use: 100,000+ gallons at very high levels (3,000+ ppt) and 350,000+ gallons at typical levels around 100 ppt, which works out to roughly 12-36 months for most households. Metered tank owners replace at the gallon target the meter tracks; bypass tank owners work from their water test and an annual PFAS check, because breakthrough has no color, taste, or smell. Replacement requires no tools: relieve pressure with the red button, drain the tank, pull the snap ring, swap the cartridge, and flush for 10 minutes before use. Spent cartridges are returned to the manufacturer for PFAS extraction, destruction, and media reuse, so the forever chemicals your cartridge captured never reach a landfill.

Frequently Asked Questions

This is the genuine ATOMUS PF8 cartridge (part number CT-5020-0640RD-PF8) for the Enpress PIONEER 8" x 40" cartridge tank. If you own our Pioneer PFAS Removal System, in either the standard bypass tank or the metered tank configuration, this is the correct and only replacement cartridge. It also fits any other PIONEER 8x40 tank. It does not fit Big Blue housings or standard 4.5" x 20" filter housings, and no generic cartridge fits the PIONEER tank in its place.

It depends on your PFAS concentration and how much water your household uses. At typical residential PFAS levels around 100 ppt, the cartridge is rated for 350,000+ gallons of non-detect removal. At very high levels (3,000+ ppt), it is rated for 100,000+ gallons. In real-world terms most households land somewhere between 12 and 36 months. If you have the metered tank, replace at the gallon target the meter was set to: that is the most reliable signal, because PFAS breakthrough has no taste, color, or smell. If you have the bypass tank, work from your water test numbers and household usage, and call us if you want help estimating. We also recommend an annual PFAS test on the treated water regardless of configuration.

No tools are needed. Put the system into bypass, press the red pressure-relief button on the top cap, drain the tank through the PEX drain valve, pull the snap ring, lift off the cap, and exchange the cartridge. Reseat the cap and snap ring, return the bypass to service, and check for leaks. Then flush the system for 10 minutes before using the water to clear any fine media particles from the new cartridge. If you have the metered tank, reset the meter to the new cartridge capacity. The whole job takes most people 15 to 20 minutes including the flush.

Spent ATOMUS PF8 cartridges are returned to the manufacturer through a take-back recycling program. The PFAS captured in the media is extracted and destroyed, and the media itself is regenerated for reuse. That means the forever chemicals your cartridge collected over its service life never go to a landfill, where they could eventually leach back into groundwater. Contact us when you order a replacement and we will help arrange the return of the spent cartridge.

No generic cartridge fits the PIONEER 8x40 tank, and even if one did, it would not match this media. The ATOMUS PF8 is PFAS-selective with roughly 25x the PFAS adsorption capacity of standard granular activated carbon, and it is proven to remove 8 specific PFAS chemicals (PFOA, PFOS, PFHpA, PFNA, PFHxS, PFBS, GenX, and PFDA) to non-detect below 1 ng/L. Its performance is not affected by pH, TOC, or other ions in your water. A carbon substitute would give up exactly the protection the system was bought for.

Test the treated water. PFAS cannot be seen, tasted, or smelled, so a lab test is the only verification. We recommend a PFAS test on the treated water about a month after a cartridge change and annually after that. Our PFAS water test kit is an EPA 537.1 certified lab test covering 14 PFAS analytes including PFOA and PFOS. If a post-swap test shows anything other than non-detect, call us: the usual culprits are upstream sediment, iron, or manganese fouling rather than the cartridge itself.

Because cartridge life is driven by two things that vary a lot between homes: the PFAS concentration in your water and the gallons you run through it. A family of five on water with 1,000 ppt PFAS will exhaust a cartridge several times faster than a couple on 50 ppt water. That is also why we recommend the metered tank configuration on the system itself: it counts actual gallons instead of guessing from a calendar. If you send us your water test and household size, we will give you a realistic interval for your situation.

Why the ATOMUS PF8 Costs More Than Carbon Cartridges

PFAS-Selective Media vs Generic Carbon Replacements

What You Get With Carbon-Based PFAS Cartridges

Generic replacement cartridges do not fit the PIONEER 8x40 tank, so the real comparison is other PFAS media. Standard granular activated carbon (GAC) is non-selective: it spends most of its capacity adsorbing chlorine, organics, and other compounds instead of PFAS, exhausts quickly, and is rarely tested to prove it actually reaches non-detect levels over its rated life.

When a GAC cartridge or tank of carbon is spent, it typically goes to a landfill, where the PFAS it captured can eventually leach back out into the environment.

The Real Cost Comparison

12-36 months of non-detect whole-house protection, recycled when spent

At typical residential PFAS concentrations (around 100 ppt), one cartridge provides 350,000+ gallons of non-detect protection, which is roughly 12-36 months of whole-house coverage for most households. Spread over its service life, that is a low daily cost for certified PFAS removal at every tap, shower, and appliance in your home. Carbon alternatives cost less per cartridge but exhaust far sooner and do not deliver verified non-detect removal, so their real cost per protected gallon runs higher.

What You Get With the ATOMUS PF8

The ATOMUS PF8 is a PFAS-selective adsorption cartridge with roughly 25x the PFAS capacity of GAC, certified to NSF/ANSI 61 for drinking water contact. It removes 8 specific PFAS chemicals to non-detect (below 1 ng/L), exceeding the EPA Drinking Water Standards of 4 ppt for PFOA and PFOS, and its performance is not affected by pH, TOC, or co-present inorganic ions.

One cartridge is the entire maintenance event for the system: no media handling, no rebedding, no backwashing hardware. The swap is a no-tool snap-ring change followed by a 10 minute flush. And the spent cartridge goes back to the manufacturer for PFAS extraction, destruction, and media reuse instead of a landfill. You also get 7-day-a-week expert support from people with 29+ years of water treatment experience.

29+ Success Rate

PFAS are invisible, tasteless, and odorless, which makes trusting your filtration essential. That is why we back this cartridge with a real guarantee, not a return policy designed to discourage returns. We have spent 29+ years helping homeowners solve water contamination problems, and the ATOMUS PF8 is the cartridge we trust for PFAS because it is selective, certified, and proven to reach non-detect.

The Industry "Return Policy" Trap +

Most online water treatment retailers offer a return policy that requires you to ship the product back at your expense, then deducts a 15-25% restocking fee. It is designed to make returns impractical. For something as serious as PFAS in your family's water, you should not have to gamble on whether a replacement cartridge actually performs.

How Our Real Guarantee Works
1
It Doesn't Reduce the PFAS

If post-swap testing shows PFAS haven't reached non-detect as the media is proven to achieve, that's on us.

2
You Call Us, We Fix It

We troubleshoot with you: water test results, pre-filtration, iron or manganese interference, flush procedure, meter settings. Most issues come down to upstream contaminants fouling the media and are resolved with a simple pre-filter adjustment.

Full Refund, No Hassle

If we cannot resolve the issue, you get a full refund. We handle the logistics. You do not ship anything back. That is the difference between a real guarantee and a return policy.

Aidan

When a Pioneer owner calls about a replacement cartridge, the first thing I ask about is the water going into the tank, because sediment, iron, or manganese getting past the pre-filter is the most common reason a cartridge underperforms or wears out early. Send me your latest water test and your household size and I will tell you honestly whether it is time to replace, how long the new cartridge should last in your water, and how to send the spent one back for recycling.
