Standard plumbing install with two additional requirements: a nearby electrical outlet (24V transformer included) and a drain line for the backwash cycle.
🔌 Electrical
Standard 120V outlet within 6 feet. Included 24V transformer plugs in and connects to the valve head.
🚰 Drain Line
1/2" tubing from the valve drain port to a floor drain, utility sink, or daylight.
Installation Steps
Shut off the main water supply and relieve pressure at a nearby faucet
Mount the system on the main water line after the pressure tank. Water enters the inlet side of the valve and exits the outlet to the house
Connect the stainless steel bypass valve (included) for service isolation
Route the 1/2" drain line from the valve drain port to a floor drain, utility sink, or outside
Plug the 24V transformer into a standard outlet and connect to the valve head
Set the current time of day and backwash schedule on the Fleck 5600SXT digital controller (every 3-5 days is typical)
Open the bypass slowly, then switch to service position. Run water for 10-15 minutes to flush calcite fines
Backwash timing: Set the backwash to run at 2:00 AM when no water is being used. Each cycle takes about 30-45 minutes. If you also have a water softener, stagger the regeneration times so they don't overlap.

✨
Self-cleaning system. The Fleck 5600SXT automatically backwashes on your set schedule, flushing sediment and redistributing the calcite bed. Your only job is refilling calcite every 6-12 months.
Maintenance Schedule
AutomaticBackwash cycle runs on schedule. Set every 3-5 days on the 5600SXT controller. Each cycle runs for 30-45 minutes (typically at 2 AM), using 60-80 gallons. This prevents channeling, removes trapped sediment, and keeps the calcite bed loose and effective.
Every 6-12 MonthsRefill calcite media. Calcite dissolves as it neutralizes acid, so the media level drops over time. Check the level through the fill port every few months. When it gets below the halfway mark, add calcite using the included fill funnel. Refill frequency depends on your pH level and water usage.
YearlyCheck the drain line. Make sure the backwash drain line is clear and flowing freely. A clogged drain line can cause the backwash cycle to fail and may damage the valve.
Every 3-6 MonthsReplace sediment pre-filter cartridge (if using a Big Blue upstream). A sediment filter protects the calcite bed and extends media life.

The Fleck 5600SXT Backwashing Acid Neutralizer for Well Water
Automated backwash keeps the calcite bed clean. NSF certified. Money-back guarantee.
The Fleck 5600SXT 1.5 cubic foot backwashing acid neutralizer uses natural calcite media to raise your well water's pH from acidic to neutral 7.0. The Fleck 5600SXT digital valve automates the backwash cycle, flushing sediment and redistributing the calcite bed every few days to prevent channeling and keep the media performing at its best.
Sized for 2-6 people with 1-3 bathrooms, this system handles up to 10 GPM and treats pH levels of 6.0-6.9 with calcite alone. For pH below 6.0, add FloMag/Corosex media (available as an option). Need a higher flow rate or larger household coverage? See our Fleck 2510SXT backwashing acid neutralizers in 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 cubic foot sizes. Not sure which size? Call Aidan at 800-460-5810.

Frequently Asked Questions
No, about 80% of our customers install this system themselves. If you are comfortable cutting pipe and using a wrench, you can do this. The system comes with a bypass valve and threaded connections that make it straightforward. We also provide a comprehensive video guide and have tech support available 7 days a week if you get stuck.
Because of our larger 2.5 cubic foot tank size, you only need to add media every 6 to 12 months for the average household (3-4 people). Smaller units from big box stores often require refilling every 3-6 months. We include a fill funnel with your order to make the refill process mess-free.
Not noticeably. The "Vortech" tank technology we use actually improves flow rates compared to traditional gravel-bed tanks. The system is rated for 17 GPM (Gallons Per Minute), which is sufficient for most homes with up to 3 bathrooms running simultaneously.
The unit ships via freight truck with liftgate service. The driver will lower the pallet to your driveway or curb. You are responsible for disposing of the wooden pallet and cardboard packaging. The tank itself is lightweight when empty (~25 lbs) and easy to move into your garage or basement before filling it with the included media.
No, it's a non-backwashing head. It doesn't need electricity or a backwash line.

Fleck 5600SXT 1.5 Cubi...$1,495.00
Investing in The Right System
Cheap backwashing neutralizers look identical online, but they cut corners where it matters.
Found this neutralizer cheaper somewhere else?
Cheap backwashing acid neutralizers sold online for $600-800 typically use:
Low-cost control valves (not genuine Fleck) that fail within 2-3 years, requiring a $400-600 replacement valve and a plumber visit.
Standard gravel-bed tanks instead of Vortech, which are heavier, harder to service, and more prone to channeling.
Incomplete calcite fill (sometimes only 50-75 lbs in a 1.5 cu ft tank) so the system underperforms from day one.
No bypass valve, no fill funnel, and no technical support. You are on your own if something goes wrong.

The Industry "Return Policy" Trap
+
Most water filter companies offer standard "Money Back Guarantees" or return policies fully knowing that you aren't going to drain, package, and pay heavy freight costs to ship a 600lb wet tank back to them. It's an illusion of safety. Our guarantee requires zero return shipping.
