About Mid Atlantic Water

Mid Atlantic Water is a family-owned water treatment company based in Maryland. We sell whole-house systems for well water and city water online and ship them to homes across the U.S. Before you buy, you can go over your water test with Aidan, our co-owner, by phone or text, at no charge. Your own plumber does the installation, and Aidan supports your plumber by phone.

The name is where we started. We began in the 1990s as a local service and installation company in Maryland: water tests at the kitchen table, installs, and service calls. Today we are a national distributor, and we no longer install anything, anywhere. What carried over is the field experience: which equipment holds up, how systems end up undersized, and what comes back as a service call a few years later.

How buying from us works

1. Start with a water test

   Every water treatment recommendation starts from your numbers: hardness, iron, manganese, pH and hydrogen sulfide, and on city water, whether your utility uses chlorine or chloramine (its annual water quality report says which). Already have a recent lab report? Send it to us. If not, our lab test kits are $199 for well water (53 contaminants) or city water (47 contaminants).

2. Talk it through with Aidan

   Call 800-460-5810 or text a photo of your results to 443-277-2204. Aidan sizes the system to your water chemistry, your flow rate and how many people live in the house. There is no charge, and no pressure to buy.

3. We ship it to your door

   Freight is free to the lower 48 states and DC; Hawaii freight is $500, and for Alaska, call us before ordering. In-stock systems typically ship in 3 to 5 business days, and we email tracking when yours leaves. Heavier systems come by freight carrier, lighter ones by UPS or FedEx. Check the delivery when it arrives and tell us about any damage or missing parts within 3 days.

   What arrives: the tank, the control valve with its bypass valve pre-installed, and the media in separate bags (plus the brine tank for a softener). Every tank ships empty; the media is loaded into the tank at install, usually through the included fill funnel. Drain tubing is not included: backwashing systems and softeners need 1/2 inch tubing to a drain, which any hardware store sells.

4. Your plumber installs it

   We recommend a licensed plumber, who typically completes the install in 2 to 3 hours. Aidan supports your plumber by phone at 800-460-5810, and our install videos walk through each step.

How we choose equipment

The water treatment industry sells a lot of look-alike products. We focus on systems we have seen hold up in the field, in the sizes homes actually need. Some homes need one system; others need two or three in a row, like an acid neutralizer ahead of a softener.

Size matters as much as the equipment. An undersized system underperforms or wears out early, so we size each treatment system to your water test and flow rate, not to a price point.

What if you're not around in 10 years?

It is a fair question to ask any online seller, and callers ask it. We are a family business, and we have been at this for about 30 years. More important, your system does not depend on us. The valves are standard Fleck and Clack models, and the tanks and media are standard sizes, so any water treatment dealer or plumber can service it, and parts are sold across the industry.
