Downflow/Backwashing Acid Neutralizers

A backwashing acid neutralizer is for wells with iron above 0.5 ppm or heavy sediment. The neutralizer goes ahead of the iron filter, so iron still reaches the calcite and the bed has to be rinsed. It needs a drain and an outlet, sends about 70 gallons down the drain per backwash on a 1.5 cu ft tank and about 140 on a 2.0 or 2.5, and the well must supply about 5 gpm to backwash a 2.5 cu ft tank. About nine in ten neutralizers we ship are non-backwashing, because most wells do not need this.

Residential tanks run $1,495 (Fleck 5600SXT 1.5 cu ft) to $2,395 (Fleck 2510SXT 2.5 cu ft with FloMag); the commercial Fleck 2815NXT is $4,295.
