From the well to your taps

Water passes through an air pocket at the top of the tank, which oxidizes dissolved iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide.
The Katalox Light bed filters out what the air oxidized, down to about 3 microns (Watch Water's rating for the media).
On its schedule (set at the factory for every other day, and adjustable), the valve backwashes: it rinses the filter media, sends that water down the drain, and draws in a fresh air pocket.
During that cycle the Ozotech ozone generator switches on, and ozone is drawn into the tank with the air. It sanitizes the filter media. In Aidan's words: "when it backwashes, it sanitizes the media bed and kills the iron bacteria."

The ozone runs only during the backwash cycle. It does not treat the water you drink while you use it; for bacteria in the drinking water, a UV light goes last. There are no chemicals to add.

Who installs it

We recommend having a plumber install it: about 2 to 3 hours, typically about $800. It is one backwashing tank. Plumbing it in is an inlet and an outlet on the bypass valve; the part that takes planning is the drain line, sized for the backwash flow, with an air gap to a floor drain, standpipe or utility sink. It also needs a standard outlet near the tank for the power supply, which runs the valve and the ozone generator.

The Ozone Version of Our Air-Injection Iron Filter

Katalox Light filter media, a Clack-based air-injection valve, and an Ozotech ozone generator that sanitizes the filter media at each backwash.

This is the ozone version of our air-injection iron filter. In service, an air pocket at the top of the 13 x 54 inch tank oxidizes iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide, and 2.5 cubic feet of Katalox Light filters them out. When it backwashes, an Ozotech ozone generator mounted on the valve draws ozone into the tank, which sanitizes the filter media. In Aidan's words: "when it backwashes, it sanitizes the media bed and kills the iron bacteria."
