There are two types of acid neutralizers available: the upflow (or non-backwashing) acid neutralizer, and the automatic electronically controlled backwashing neutralizer. Want to learn the difference? Read our Complete Guide To Acid Neutralizers.

 

Our company, Mid Atlantic Water, sells more of the upflow (or non-backwashing) acid neutralizers because they are easy to install. They don't need a backwash drain, they don't need electricity and they do not waste any water.

 

In order to use the upflow system, your water supply needs to be iron free. When installed as an upflow, the non-backwashing system eliminates channeling and solidification of the media bed - which is much more effective than a backwashing type system.

 

We typically recommend the non-backwashing neutralizer to all of our clients nationwide; unless they have iron in their water supply. If iron is present in the water supply, it's necessary to install a backwashing type neutralizer.
