Whole House PFAS Cartridge Filter - Pentair FloPlus Protect 20BB
Not sure if this budget PFAS filter is enough for your water?
It depends on three things: which PFAS compounds your lab test shows, how many bathrooms you have, and whether you are on city or well water. This filter is certified for 5 PFAS compounds at 5 GPM - a real fit for 1-2 bath city homes, and honestly not the right pick for bigger homes or wider contamination. Send Aidan your PFAS test results and he will tell you straight whether to buy this, the ion exchange system, or the Pioneer.

- ✓ Installation and operation manual
- ✓ Free shipping to all lower 48 states
Be honest with yourself about flow rate: this system is rated at 5 GPM service flow. That is genuinely fine for a 1-2 bathroom home, but a 3+ bathroom house running multiple showers will notice the restriction. Larger homes should look at our 8 GPM ion exchange PFAS system or the Pioneer cartridge system instead.
Test first: PFAS have no taste, color, or smell. Before buying any PFAS filter, confirm what is actually in your water with a PFAS water test kit (EPA 537.1 certified lab analysis). Treatment should be chosen from a lab result, not guesswork.

PFAS Compounds Certified for Reduction
✓ PFOA (Perfluorooctanoic acid)
✓ PFOS (Perfluorooctane sulfonate)
✓ PFHxS (Perfluorohexane sulfonate)
✓ PFNA (Perfluorononanoic acid)
✓ PFHpA (Perfluoroheptanoic acid)
The honest comparison: this carbon block is certified for the 5 PFAS compounds above. Our ion exchange PFAS system and the Pioneer system reach non-detect levels across a wider range of PFAS species, including short-chain compounds like PFBS and GenX. If your lab test shows compounds beyond these 5, or very high total PFAS, step up to one of those systems.

No drain line. No electricity. No backwashing. Standard 1" FPT plumbing. The FloPlus Protect installs inline on your main water line with the included mounting bracket. It is a fully passive cartridge filter - the simplest whole-house PFAS installation there is.
Check your feed pressure. The housing is rated for 30-90 psi feed water and 40-100 F. If your home's pressure runs above 90 psi, install a pressure reducing valve upstream. On well water, sediment, iron, or manganese will foul the carbon block early - those need their own treatment first, and a well with confirmed PFAS is usually better served by our well water PFAS system.
Installation Steps
- Shut off the main water supply and relieve pressure at a nearby faucet
- Choose a wall location on the main line after the meter (city water) with room below the housing to swing the wrench for cartridge changes
- Mount the bracket to the wall with the included screws and hang the housing
- Cut into the main line and connect the 1" FPT inlet and outlet (adapters available for 3/4" plumbing)
- Insert the Fibredyne carbon block cartridge, lubricate the O-ring, and tighten the sump with the included wrench
- Open the supply slowly, press the pressure relief button to purge air, check for leaks, and flush the cartridge per the manual before use

One cartridge a year for most 1-2 bath homes. No backwashing, no media changeouts, no electronics. Maintenance is a single cartridge swap with the included wrench - shut off the water, press the pressure relief button, unscrew the sump, replace the cartridge, done.
Maintenance Schedule
- 40,000 gal / 12 months Replace the Fibredyne carbon block cartridge at 40,000 gallons or 12 months, whichever comes first. A higher-use household can reach the gallon limit before the calendar does - if your home uses 150+ gallons per day, plan on changing it sooner than a year.
- At each change Inspect and lubricate the housing O-ring with food-grade silicone grease, and check the housing for cracks or wear.
- Annual Test your treated water for PFAS to confirm performance. PFAS breakthrough has no taste, color, or smell - a PFAS lab test is the only way to verify the cartridge is still doing its job.
Cartridge Replacement
The 20" Big Blue housing is an industry-standard format, and the replacement is the Pentair Fibredyne FloPlus Protect carbon block cartridge. The integrated pressure relief valve makes changes clean: relieve pressure first, then unscrew the sump with the included wrench. Contact us for replacement cartridge pricing and availability.
Do not run the cartridge past its rated capacity. Unlike a sediment filter, a spent PFAS cartridge gives no visible warning - water keeps flowing normally while PFAS passes through. Put the replacement date on your calendar at install time.

Why Choose the FloPlus Protect as Your Whole House PFAS Cartridge Filter?
Certified Carbon Block PFAS Reduction for Smaller Homes, Without the Tank-System Price
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are man-made chemicals that do not break down in the environment or the human body. They are most often found in city water supplies, and because they have no color, taste, or smell, a lab test is the only way to know they are present. The EPA has set enforceable maximum contaminant levels of 4 ppt for PFOA and PFOS.
The Pentair FloPlus Protect 20BB is a whole house PFAS cartridge filter built around a 20 inch Big Blue housing and a Fibredyne 1 micron carbon block. Unlike loose granular activated carbon, which a Duke University study found averages only about 73% PFAS removal, this engineered carbon block is IAPMO R&T certified against NSF/ANSI 53 for PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS, PFNA, and PFHpA reduction at up to 99.82%. One cartridge covers 40,000 gallons or about 12 months.
At 5 GPM service flow, it is sized for 1-2 bathroom homes on city water - the budget entry point for certified whole-house PFAS protection. Homes with 3+ bathrooms, well water, or PFAS species beyond the 5 certified compounds should step up to our ion exchange PFAS Removal System or the Pioneer cartridge system, which reach non-detect levels across a wider range of PFAS chemicals.
