This package pairs the backwashing Fleck 2510SXT acid neutralizer with an iron filter on purpose. The acid neutralizer sits first in line, so raw well water with iron in it passes through the calcite bed before the iron filter removes it. The automatic backwash keeps that iron from cementing the calcite and prevents channeling. If your well has no iron, the upflow (non-backwashing) version costs less and skips the drain line. The acid neutralizer comes first because this package is built for low pH water. Correcting the pH right away protects everything downstream: acidic water attacks the internals of the other systems, and the Katalox-Light iron media performs far better at neutral pH. The iron filter then removes iron, manganese, and sulfur, and the softener finishes by removing hardness, including the small amount the calcite adds. Getting this order wrong causes premature media failure and poor performance.

Yes, most of our customers do. Aidan walks people through the full installation over the phone, 7 days a week. You need basic plumbing skills (cutting pipe, making connections) and the ability to lift 50 lb bags of media. Plan 4-6 hours over a weekend. If you hire a plumber, they can call Aidan directly for help with the Fleck valve programming.

The biggest recurring items are: salt for the softener (a 40 lb bag every 4-8 weeks) and calcite for the acid neutralizer (top off every 12-18 months). The iron filter media lasts 7-10+ years. It depends on your water test. If your well produces sand or grit, a Big Blue sediment filter ahead of the iron filter is cheap insurance.
