Salt-Free Water Conditioner | 2.5 cu ft High-Capacity Filtersorb SP3 (Clack C1190 + Vortech)
Not sure if salt-free is right for your water?
Salt-free conditioners only work in specific water conditions. Iron under 0.5 ppm. pH between 6.5 and 9.5. Free chlorine under 3 ppm. If your water test results are outside those numbers, you will need pre-treatment first, or you may be a better fit for a traditional salt softener. Call or text me with your water test and I will tell you straight up whether this system is right for your home, or whether something else fits better. No sales pressure.

Heads up: A salt-free conditioner is not a salt-based softener. It does not remove calcium and magnesium. It transforms them into stable micro-crystals so they cannot stick to pipes, water heaters, or fixtures. Read the honest comparison here.

No electricity. No drain line. No programming. This is one of the simplest whole-house water treatment systems to install. Most plumbers can install it in under an hour. DIY-friendly if you can sweat copper or work with PEX.
Installation Steps
- Shut off the main water supply and relieve pressure at a nearby faucet
- Place the tank where you want it (allow ~60" of vertical clearance for the valve and fill access)
- Plumb the inlet line to the valve inlet. Water enters through the center tube and flows down to the Vortech plate at the bottom of the tank
- Plumb the outlet line to your house plumbing
- Open the bypass valve, then slowly pressurize the system to fill the tank from the bottom up
- Run cold water at a fixture for 5 to 10 minutes to flush any media fines (water may look slightly cloudy at first, this is normal)
- Switch the valve to service position. Done. There is no programming, no schedule, no priming chemicals to add.

Almost zero maintenance. No salt to add, no brine tank to clean, no drain to monitor, no electricity to troubleshoot. The only thing you do is replace the Filtersorb SP3 media every 5 to 7 years.
Maintenance Schedule
- Daily / Monthly Nothing. No salt to add. No filter cartridges to swap. No backwash cycles to manage.
- Yearly Visual inspection. Look for leaks at the valve fittings. Check that the bypass valve still moves freely.
- Every 5 to 7 Years Replace the Filtersorb SP3 media. Watch Water rates the media for 5 to 7 years of normal residential use. If you notice scale starting to build up on faucets or in the water heater again, that is the signal that it is time.
- Every 3 to 6 Months Replace the sediment pre-filter cartridge (if you have a Big Blue or Rusco upstream). Sediment is the #1 enemy of any water treatment media. Shop sediment filters.
Replacement media: When it is time to replace, call or text us at 800-460-5810 and we will quote a 14-liter refill of genuine Watch Water Filtersorb SP3 (we keep it in stock). Plan to be without water for about 60 to 90 minutes during the swap.

The Honest #1 Salt-Free Water Conditioner for Whole-Home Use
Built with 14 liters of genuine German Filtersorb SP3, the gold standard for non-salt scale prevention
This is the high-capacity, professionally-built version of the salt-free water conditioner. It uses 14 liters of genuine Watch Water Filtersorb SP3 (the German original, NSF/ANSI 61 certified), nearly 2x the typical 13x54 tank fill, packed into a 13 x 54 Vortech mineral tank with a non-electric Clack C1190 in/out valve. Sized for a 3 to 5 bathroom home with 12 to 15 GPM continuous service flow.
Filtersorb SP3 uses Nucleation Assisted Crystallization (often marketed as Template Assisted Crystallization or TAC) to convert dissolved calcium and magnesium into stable, microscopic crystals that cannot adhere to pipes, water heaters, glass, or fixtures. The result: no new scale buildup, gradual removal of existing scale, and clean appliances, without adding salt or sodium to your water.
What it does NOT do: it does not soften water (you will not feel the slick, slippery feel of softened water on skin), it does not remove iron, sulfur, chlorine, or low pH, and it does not change pH or TDS. If you have any of those issues, install the matching pre-treatment first. We sell every component you need, and we will tell you exactly what to put in front of this system based on your water test.
