Not sure if salt-free is right for your water? Salt-free conditioners only work in specific water conditions. Iron under 0.5 ppm. pH between 6.5 and 9.5. Free chlorine under 3 ppm. If your water test results are outside those numbers, you will need pre-treatment first, or you may be a better fit for a traditional salt softener. Call or text me with your water test and I will tell you straight up whether this system is right for your home, or whether something else fits better. No sales pressure.

Complete High-Capacity Salt-Free Conditioning System

  • 2.5 cubic foot Vortech mineral tank (13" diameter x 54" tall), gravel-free distribution plate for even up-flow contact
  • Clack C1190 non-electric in/out valve, NSF Certified, 1" male NPT inlet/outlet, no programming or timers
  • 14 liters of Watch Water Filtersorb SP3, NAC scale-prevention media (NSF/ANSI 61 certified), nearly 2x the standard fill for higher contact time and longer life
  • Bypass valve with 1" male threaded connections for easy isolation and service
  • Free shipping to all lower 48 states, ships in 2 to 4 business days
  • Free 7-day-a-week tech support from Aidan and the Mid Atlantic Water team
Heads up: A salt-free conditioner is not a salt-based softener. It does not remove calcium and magnesium. It transforms them into stable micro-crystals so they cannot stick to pipes, water heaters, or fixtures. Read the honest comparison here.

No electricity. No drain line. No programming. This is one of the simplest whole-house water treatment systems to install. Most plumbers can install it in under an hour. DIY-friendly if you can sweat copper or work with PEX.

Installation Steps

  1. Shut off the main water supply and relieve pressure at a nearby faucet
  2. Place the tank where you want it (allow ~60" of vertical clearance for the valve and fill access)
  3. Plumb the inlet line to the valve inlet. Water enters through the center tube and flows down to the Vortech plate at the bottom of the tank
  4. Plumb the outlet line to your house plumbing
  5. Open the bypass valve, then slowly pressurize the system to fill the tank from the bottom up
  6. Run cold water at a fixture for 5 to 10 minutes to flush any media fines (water may look slightly cloudy at first, this is normal)
  7. Switch the valve to service position. Done. There is no programming, no schedule, no priming chemicals to add.

Recommended System Order

Need help with placement or sizing? Call or text Aidan at 800-460-5810. Real water treatment expert, 32 years of experience, available 7 days a week. We will look at your water test and tell you whether a salt-free conditioner is the right call for your home, or whether a traditional salt-based softener would serve you better.
Almost zero maintenance. No salt to add, no brine tank to clean, no drain to monitor, no electricity to troubleshoot. The only thing you do is replace the Filtersorb SP3 media every 5 to 7 years.

Maintenance Schedule

  • Daily / Monthly Nothing. No salt to add. No filter cartridges to swap. No backwash cycles to manage.
  • Yearly Visual inspection. Look for leaks at the valve fittings. Check that the bypass valve still moves freely.
  • Every 5 to 7 Years Replace the Filtersorb SP3 media. Watch Water rates the media for 5 to 7 years of normal residential use. If you notice scale starting to build up on faucets or in the water heater again, that is the signal that it is time.
  • Every 3 to 6 Months Replace the sediment pre-filter cartridge (if you have a Big Blue or Rusco upstream). Sediment is the #1 enemy of any water treatment media. Shop sediment filters.
Replacement media: When it is time to replace, call or text us at 800-460-5810 and we will quote a 14-liter refill of genuine Watch Water Filtersorb SP3 (we keep it in stock). Plan to be without water for about 60 to 90 minutes during the swap.

The Honest #1 Salt-Free Water Conditioner for Whole-Home Use

Built with 14 liters of genuine German Filtersorb SP3, the gold standard for non-salt scale prevention

This is the high-capacity, professionally-built version of the salt-free water conditioner. It uses 14 liters of genuine Watch Water Filtersorb SP3 (the German original, NSF/ANSI 61 certified), nearly 2x the typical 13x54 tank fill, packed into a 13 x 54 Vortech mineral tank with a non-electric Clack C1190 in/out valve. Sized for a 3 to 5 bathroom home with 12 to 15 GPM continuous service flow. Filtersorb SP3 uses Nucleation Assisted Crystallization (often marketed as Template Assisted Crystallization or TAC) to convert dissolved calcium and magnesium into stable, microscopic crystals that cannot adhere to pipes, water heaters, glass, or fixtures. The result: no new scale buildup, gradual removal of existing scale, and clean appliances, without adding salt or sodium to your water. What it does NOT do: it does not soften water (you will not feel the slick, slippery feel of softened water on skin), it does not remove iron, sulfur, chlorine, or low pH, and it does not change pH or TDS. If you have any of those issues, install the matching pre-treatment first. We sell every component you need, and we will tell you exactly what to put in front of this system based on your water test.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, and we will not pretend otherwise. A traditional salt-based softener uses ion exchange to remove calcium and magnesium from the water entirely, replacing them with sodium. A salt-free conditioner like this one uses Filtersorb SP3 NAC media to transform calcium and magnesium into stable, microscopic crystals that cannot stick to surfaces. The minerals are still in the water, they just cannot form scale. You will not feel the slick, slippery feel of softened water on your skin. Soap will not lather quite as easily. But your pipes, water heater, dishwasher, and faucets will stay clean of scale buildup. Read our honest comparison: Salt-Free Water Softeners: Do They Actually Work?

It prevents new scale (limescale, calcium buildup) from forming on the inside of pipes, on heating elements in your water heater, on showerheads, on faucets, and on glass shower doors. It will also help dissolve existing scale over time. What it does NOT do: it does not soften water, does not remove iron, does not remove sulfur smell, does not remove chlorine, does not remove sediment, and does not change the pH or TDS of your water. If you have any of those issues, you need a different system upstream of this one.

Watch Water (the German manufacturer of Filtersorb SP3) rates the media for 5 to 7 years of typical residential use. This system uses 14 liters, nearly 2x the typical 7.5 L fill for a 13x54 tank, which extends both contact time and media life. When the media is exhausted, you will start seeing scale return on faucets and in the water heater. We sell replacement Filtersorb SP3, just call or text 800-460-5810.

Yes, gradually. Filtersorb SP3 produces water that is undersaturated with respect to calcium carbonate, which means existing scale slowly redissolves into the water flow over weeks and months of normal use. You will not see overnight results. But over 6 to 12 months, scale on showerheads, in the water heater, and on heating elements typically clears up. Customers commonly report better water heater efficiency within the first year.

Only if you treat those issues first. Filtersorb SP3 has hard limits on what it can tolerate: iron under 0.5 ppm, manganese under 0.05 ppm, free chlorine under 3 ppm, pH between 6.5 and 9.5. If your well has iron staining, rotten egg smell, or acidic water (pH below 6.5), install the matching pre-treatment first: an iron filter, an air injection system for sulfur, or an acid neutralizer. We sell complete pre-built combos. Call us with your water test results and we will tell you what you need.

Yes, the water is fully drinkable. Filtersorb SP3 is NSF/ANSI 61 certified for material safety by the WQA (Water Quality Association). It adds nothing to the water: no salt, no sodium, no chemicals. The TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) of your water is unchanged before and after treatment. The pH is unchanged. Calcium and magnesium remain in the water (just in non-scaling crystal form), which is actually a health benefit, calcium and magnesium are minerals your body needs.

Three things. First, media volume: this system uses 14 liters of genuine Watch Water Filtersorb SP3 (the German original), versus 5 to 7 liters of generic ceramic beads in budget systems. More media equals more contact time equals better performance. Second, the Vortech tank and Clack C1190 valve are NSF-rated commercial-grade components, not generic parts. Third, you get real expert support from a 32-year water treatment professional, not an offshore email ticket. The cheap systems work for 18 to 24 months, then start to fail with no recourse.

Honestly, not quite. Real salt-based softeners give you the slippery feel, easier soap lather, and zero water spots on dishes that nothing else can replicate. With a salt-free conditioner, soap will lather a bit less, and you may still see some water spots on glass dishes from the dissolved minerals. The trade-off is no salt, no sodium, no electricity, no drain, no wastewater, and no monthly maintenance. If the slick feel matters to you, get a real water softener. If your priority is stopping scale damage to plumbing and appliances without salt, this is the right system. We sell both, and we will tell you straight up which one fits your goals.

Why Our Salt-Free System Costs More

And Why It Pays for Itself in 24 Months

What You Get With $400-$800 Salt-Free Systems

Most $400 to $800 salt-free systems online are built with 5 to 7 liters of generic ceramic media in a small 10 x 44 tank with a generic valve head. They are sized for a 1 to 2 bathroom apartment, not a whole house. The flow rate is too low for a 3+ bath home, the contact time is too short to convert hardness reliably, and the media is exhausted in 18 to 36 months instead of the 5 to 7 years that genuine Watch Water Filtersorb SP3 delivers.

Worse, when scale starts coming back, you will be talking to an offshore support email queue with no answers. There is nobody to call when you have a real water problem.

The Real Cost Comparison

Budget Salt-Free System
$599
  • Lifespan: Fails in 3-4 years
  • Result: Frequent repairs, poor water quality, leaks
  • Support: None
$0.55/day (3-year avg life)
Best Long-Term Value
Our High-Capacity Salt-Free System
$2,895
  • Lifespan: Lasts 15+ years
  • Result: Done right the first time, peace of mind
  • Support: Lifetime USA Support
$0.85/day (6-year avg life)

Spread over the 5 to 7 year media life and the 10-year tank warranty, this system costs about $0.85 per day. A budget salt-free system costs about $0.55 per day, but typically needs replacement after 2 to 3 years, and offers no real protection for a 3+ bath home. The math favors the system that actually works.

What You Get With Our System

This system is built with the same components a professional installer would put in a home: 14 liters of genuine Watch Water Filtersorb SP3 (the German original, not a knockoff), a 13 x 54 Vortech mineral tank, and a Clack C1190 NSF-certified non-electric valve. Every component is commercial-grade and designed for 10+ years of service.

You also get 7-day-a-week phone and text support from Aidan, a real water treatment expert with 32 years in the field. We size the system for your home, we walk you through installation, and we are here when you need us 5 years from now.

32+ Success Rate

Salt-free conditioners are misunderstood, and a lot of people buy the wrong system or have the wrong expectations. We have been selling water treatment for 32 years. We will only sell you a salt-free system if it actually fits your water and your goals. If we sell you one, we stand behind it.

The Industry "Return Policy" Trap +

Most online salt-free retailers offer a 'satisfaction guarantee' that requires you to ship the entire 220-pound wet tank back at your expense. After paying $200+ in return shipping, you often discover a 15-25% restocking fee on top of that. It is designed to make returns impossible.

How Our Real Guarantee Works
1
It Doesn't Prevent Scale

If new scale keeps building up on faucets, in the water heater, or on glass shower doors after 90 days of installation, that is on us.

2
You Call Us, We Diagnose

We troubleshoot with you. Water test results, installation photos, plumbing layout. Most issues are wrong pre-treatment for the source water, easy to fix.

Full Refund, No Hassle

If we cannot resolve the issue, you get a full refund. We handle the logistics. You do not ship a 220-pound tank anywhere. That is the difference between a real guarantee and a return policy.

Solved my very high iron issues

"I had well water with over 20 ppm ferrous and 7 ppm of ferric iron, plus manganese and some sulfur. Local water companies rejected me, said they couldn't help. I purchased two Fleck 2.5 cu. ft. 2510AIO iron filter tanks with Katalox-Light. Problem solved."
