Real-world life depends on your starting arsenic level and how much water your household uses. A typical household using 80 to 120 gallons per day will get several years from a cartridge. The Metered Tank upgrade tracks gallons used and signals as you approach capacity, which is especially useful because arsenic breakthrough is invisible.

The Standard (Bypass Tank) configuration is fully passive and includes the bypass manifold and drain valve. The Metered Tank upgrade adds an LED metered umbrella cap that counts the gallons you have used and gives a color-coded warning as the cartridge nears capacity. Because arsenic has no taste, color, or smell, you cannot detect breakthrough on your own. We recommend the Metered Tank for most homes so you replace the cartridge on time, and an annual arsenic test on the treated water either way.

The system operates between pH 5.5 and 9.5. Performance is best within that range. If your water is above pH 8, it may need adjustment for top performance, and very acidic water below 5.5 should be neutralized first.
