Set the pre-charge correctly. This is the #1 cause of premature bladder failure. Your tank must be pre-charged to 2 PSI BELOW your pump cut-in pressure, with no water in the tank. Factory ships at 38 PSI for 40/60 service. For 30/50 service, drop it to 28 PSI.
Where the Tank Goes (Plumbing Order)
Submersible / Jet Pump→Check Valve→WX-203 Tank + Tee (this unit)→Sediment / Iron / Acid / Softener→House
The pressure tank always comes first, immediately after the pump and check valve. All water treatment equipment goes after the tank so it sees pressurized, demand-driven flow.
Installation Steps
Inspect the freight on delivery. Open the box on the driver's pallet jack. Look for dents in the steel shell, damaged stand, or cracked tee package. If anything is dented or compromised, refuse delivery or note it on the BOL and call us at 800-460-5810 the same day.
Place the tank on a level, dry surface within reach of your existing pump discharge line. Pad mountains of standing water are not acceptable - if the basement is damp, use a small platform.
Verify the pre-charge with a tire gauge BEFORE plumbing it in. The valve is on top under the blue cap. Should read 38 PSI from the factory. Adjust to 2 PSI below your pump cut-in (28 PSI for 30/50, 38 PSI for 40/60, 48 PSI for 50/70).
Wrap and thread the brass tee into the 1" stainless connection. Use 4-6 wraps of yellow/gas-rated PTFE tape (white tape is rated for water but yellow is more compression resistant on brass). Hand-tight + 2 turns with a pipe wrench.
Plumb the inlet and outlet sides of the tee using 1" brass unions for serviceability. Pump discharge connects to one side, house line goes out the other.
Wire the pressure switch per local code (typically a 230V circuit for submersibles, 120V for jet pumps). Set the differential and cut-in/cut-out per pump manufacturer's spec.
Open the boiler drain and a downstream faucet, then turn on the pump. Let air bleed out for 1-2 minutes, close the drain, and verify the system reaches cut-out pressure.
Cycle the pump 3-5 times by drawing water until it kicks on, then letting it fill to cut-out. Verify the gauge reads cut-in (low) and cut-out (high) cleanly without flutter.
Common installation mistake: Skipping the pre-charge check. Many tanks ship at 38 PSI from the factory but they sit in warehouses for months. Always verify with a tire gauge before plumbing in. A wrong pre-charge - even by 10 PSI - is the #1 cause of premature bladder rupture.
Need help? Call or text Aidan at 800-460-5810 - 7 days a week. We have walked thousands of homeowners through pressure tank installs. We will tell you exactly what fittings to grab from the hardware store for your specific setup.
✨
A correctly pre-charged Well-X-Trol can run 10-15+ years. The only "maintenance" is checking the air pre-charge once a year and listening for short cycling. That's it.
Maintenance Schedule
AnnualCheck the air pre-charge with a tire gauge. Tank must be empty (cut power to pump, drain water at the boiler drain). Should read 2 PSI below your pump cut-in pressure. Add air with a bicycle pump or compressor if low. Releasing air also OK if too high.
AnnualInspect the pressure switch for burned contacts, corrosion, or sluggish response. The switch is the most common failure point in the system (not the tank itself).
AnnualListen for short cycling - rapid pump on/off (every few seconds when running a faucet). This is a sign of a waterlogged tank, wrong pre-charge, or failing diaphragm.
Every 5 yearsVerify gauge accuracy against a known good tire gauge or test gauge. Cheap pressure gauges drift over time.
Signs Your Tank Needs Attention
Pump short cycles (kicks on and off every few seconds) - usually a waterlogged tank or wrong pre-charge. Adjust pre-charge first; if no improvement, the diaphragm has failed.
Water comes out of the air valve when you push the pin - the diaphragm has ruptured. Tank needs replacement (this is what your 7-year warranty is for).
Visible rust streaks or weeping on the steel shell - structural integrity compromised. Replace.
Leak at the brass tee fittings - usually re-doable by re-taping and re-tightening. Don't panic, this is normal after a few years.
Troubleshooting help: Read our Well Pressure Tank Troubleshooting Guide for a step by step diagnostic, or call us at 800-460-5810. Most "bad tank" calls are actually pressure switch problems or pre-charge issues, not the tank itself.
Backed by Amtrol's 7-Year Limited Warranty, Processed By Us
The genuine Well-X-Trol Professional, sourced through an Amtrol authorized wholesale distributor channel. If a tank fails inside the 7-year window, you call us. We help you get a replacement through our distributor relationship and coordinate the replacement. You don't deal with Amtrol directly.
Why Most Online Tank Sellers Cannot Help You With a Warranty Claim
This is straight from Amtrol's official corporate policy:
"Amtrol does not offer Well-X-Trol brand products for sale via the internet, nor does Amtrol authorize its distributors or their customers to resell Well-X-Trol products online. Any Well-X-Trol item purchased from an e-commerce source is ineligible for manufacturer support; including, but not limited to: warranty coverage, product registration, shipping damage claims, product returns, technical assistance and promotional awards."
- Amtrol Inc. Well-X-Trol Internet Sales Policy (MC10253, March 2024)
Translation: if you buy your tank from Amazon, eBay, or a random online store and call Amtrol when it fails, the manufacturer can deny your claim by pointing to where you bought it. The warranty paperwork inside the box exists, but the path to actually use it is closed.
How Mid Atlantic Water Solves This
Every Well-X-Trol we sell ships through an Amtrol authorized wholesale distributor channel - the same supply chain that serves licensed pump installers nationwide. Chain of custody at the distributor level stays intact, which is what keeps the 7-year warranty live for your tank.
When a problem shows up, we are the ones who file:
You don't contact Amtrol directly. Contact Mid Atlantic Water at 800-460-5810 or email support@midatlanticwater.net with a clear photo of the serial sticker on the side of the tank and a description of the problem.
We open the claim through our authorized distributor channel. The claim is submitted in the name of the distributor account that originally shipped your tank, which is the only path Amtrol recognizes.
We coordinate the replacement tank shipment to your address. Most claims process in 5 to 10 business days once the serial number and failure photo are in.
A real person walks you through it. Aidan, 29 years in well water. No script, no offshore call center, no manufacturer hold queue.
Important - do not register your tank on Amtrol's website. If you register the unit directly with Amtrol and list "midatlanticwater.net" as the seller, the registration form can flag your tank under their Internet Sales Policy and void the coverage you actually have. Just keep your Mid Atlantic Water order confirmation email - that's all you need. If anything ever goes wrong, call us first and we handle the rest.
What Amtrol's 7-Year Limited Warranty Actually Covers
7 years from your purchase date on defects in material and workmanship of the WX-203 tank itself
Replacement tank at Amtrol's option (repair, new, or used equivalent)
The replacement carries the balance of the original 7-year period (not a fresh 7 years)
What's NOT covered (per Amtrol's standard limited warranty terms):
Labor to remove the failed tank or install the replacement
Damage from freezing, lightning, flood, or other environmental conditions
Failure caused by improper installation, wrong pre-charge, or operating outside published pressure limits
Property damage caused by a leaking tank
Tanks used in commercial, industrial, or non-potable water applications without prior approval
One more note on coverage transfer: The warranty is for the original purchaser. If you sell your home, the next owner does not inherit the warranty. If you are installing in a rental property, the warranty stays with you (the buyer), not the property.
How Your Tank Ships
Freight (LTL) on a 4-way pallet - not parcel. The driver brings it to your driveway with a liftgate.
Strapped, shrink-wrapped, and corner-protected at our distributor warehouse before it leaves the dock.
Tee package shipped inside the same crate as the tank - no separate package, nothing to lose in transit.
Fully insured for transit damage - if anything is damaged on arrival, we replace it at no cost. You don't fight the freight company.
Tracking info emailed the moment the BOL is generated. The freight carrier calls 24 hours ahead to schedule delivery.
Why This Matters
A pressure tank is a 47-pound vessel that has to ship 1,000+ miles without getting dented or having the bladder unseated. Amazon and most online retailers ship these tanks via standard parcel (UPS/FedEx) where they get tossed onto conveyors and dropped repeatedly. The result: dented shells, cracked pressure relief valves, and "non-returnable" labels because of pressurization regulations.

What to do on delivery: Open the box on the driver's pallet jack and inspect for dents, dings, and crushed corners. If anything looks compromised, refuse the shipment or note it on the bill of lading. Then call us at 800-460-5810 the same day. We handle the freight claim and ship a replacement immediately.
"Mid Atlantic Water was great to deal with. I highly recommend them - great pricing, fast shipping, and awesome communication. I called before ordering to discuss the well tank, iron filter, and softener. Aidan answered all my questions, confirmed my research and choices, and pointed me in the right direction." ★★★★★
Joseph P., Verified Buyer
"Replaced my old waterlogged tank with this exact package. The brass tee made the install go from a 4-hour parts run nightmare to a 90 minute job. Aidan walked me through the pre-charge over text on a Sunday afternoon. Tank has been running flawlessly for over a year." ★★★★★
Verified Buyer, Maryland
"I almost bought the same tank on Amazon for $200 less and then realized it was non-returnable and had no warranty support. Decided the brass tee package and freight insurance were worth it - and they were. The tank arrived perfect, palletized, with a delivery appointment. Old way of doing business done right." ★★★★★

Why the Well-X-Trol WX-203 Is the Right Pressure Tank for Your Well
Authentic Amtrol Pro Series + Brass Tee Package + 7-Year Warranty Serviced By Us
The Well-X-Trol WX-203 is the genuine 32 gallon Amtrol Pro series pressure tank, the same tank licensed pump installers nationwide put in residential wells every day. Sourced through an Amtrol authorized distributor channel and packaged with a complete brass tee assembly so it arrives ready to plumb in.
Most online tank purchases come with a hidden problem: per Amtrol's official Internet Sales Policy, Well-X-Trol products bought from random e-commerce sources are ineligible for manufacturer warranty support. We solve that by helping you process every warranty claim directly through our distributor channel. You call Mid Atlantic Water at 800-460-5810, we walk you through it, and we coordinate the replacement.
The 32 gallon WX-203 is the right size for the vast majority of residential well systems, providing about 11 gallons of drawdown at 30/50 PSI service, enough to handle most household demand without short cycling the pump. Properly pre-charged and installed, expect 10 to 15+ years of service life. We include the brass tee, pressure switch, gauge, relief valve, and boiler drain so the only thing you need from the hardware store is a 1" union and a couple of nipples to tie into your existing plumbing.

Frequently Asked Questions
This is the real thing. The WX-203 is the genuine 32 gallon Pro series tank manufactured by Amtrol Inc. in West Warwick, Rhode Island. We source every unit through an Amtrol authorized distributor channel - the same supply chain that serves licensed pump installers nationwide. Same factory, same SKU, same serial number range. The tank ships with the official Amtrol silkscreened branding and 7-year warranty paperwork.
Yes, but the path is through us, not through Amtrol directly. Amtrol's official Internet Sales Policy (MC10253) excludes random e-commerce purchases from manufacturer support. The reason your tank stays covered is that it ships through an Amtrol authorized wholesale distributor channel - chain of custody at the distributor level keeps the 7-year warranty live.
Two important things to do (and not do): (1) Do NOT register the tank directly on Amtrol's website with Mid Atlantic Water listed as the seller. That registration can flag your unit under their Internet Sales Policy and void the coverage you actually have. Just keep your MAW order confirmation. (2) If a problem ever shows up, call Mid Atlantic Water at 800-460-5810 or email support@midatlanticwater.net with a photo of the serial sticker. We help you get a replacement through our distributor channel and coordinate the replacement tank shipment. Most replacements ship in 5 to 10 business days. You're not stuck calling a manufacturer support line by yourself.
The WX-203 is a 32 gallon (~11 gallon drawdown at 30/50) tank. As a rule of thumb you want 1 gallon of drawdown per 1 gallon-per-minute of pump flow for pumps up to 10 GPM. For most residential wells (10-15 GPM submersibles) the WX-203 is the right size and gives the pump room to breathe. Bigger tank = fewer pump cycles = longer pump life. If you are not sure, send us your pump model and well details - we will tell you exactly which size to buy.
Amazon sellers ship the bare tank only - no tee package, no pressure switch, no gauge, no relief valve. By the time you buy those parts at the hardware store you are at $750-$850 for the tank alone. On top of that, you have no manufacturer warranty support (per Amtrol's own policy), the tank ships UPS/FedEx parcel where bladder damage is common, and the seller is non-returnable. Our $1,295 includes everything to plumb in, palletized freight, full warranty service, and 30 day returns - we handle the freight on a return.
Pre-charge equals your pump cut-in pressure minus 2 PSI - measured with NO water in the tank. Factory ships at 38 PSI which is correct for a 40/60 cut-in/cut-out switch. For 30/50 service (most common residential), drop it to 28 PSI. For 50/70 service, raise it to 48 PSI. Use a tire gauge on the air valve under the blue cap on top. Wrong pre-charge is the #1 cause of premature bladder failure - more than any manufacturing defect.
A correctly sized and properly pre-charged Well-X-Trol Pro typically runs 10-15+ years. The 7-year warranty covers manufacturing defects, but realistic lifespan with annual pre-charge checks is much longer. The most common failure is the diaphragm, usually caused by repeated waterlogging from a wrong pre-charge. The pressure switch (a separate part) typically needs replacement every 5-8 years - that's normal for any switch.
Yes, as long as it doesn't freeze. The Tuf-Kote HG Blue finish is rated for indoor or outdoor use. The risk for outdoor installs is freezing - the tank will rupture if it freezes solid. Insulate the tank and tee, use heat tape, or install in a pump house. Anywhere that drops below 32 F is a no-go without freeze protection.
Yes, the tank ships factory pre-charged to 38 PSI. You should still verify with a tire gauge before plumbing it in (these tanks sit in warehouses for months and the charge can drift). If you need to adjust, a basic bicycle pump or 12V tire compressor works fine - you are only adjusting by 5-15 PSI. No shop compressor required.
Same diameter (15") and stand. The WX-203 is 47" tall and holds 32 gallons. The WX-202 is 32" tall and holds 20 gallons (about 7 gallons of drawdown). Most wells benefit from the bigger tank because pump cycling is the leading cause of pump failure - more drawdown = fewer cycles. The WX-203 is the right choice for almost all residential setups unless you are tight on vertical clearance.
Yes. The WX-203 has a standard 1" NPTF system connection that works with any submersible or jet pump on the market. The included pressure switch is a Square D / Pumptrol style 30/50 PSI factory set, field-adjustable to 20/40, 40/60, or 50/70. If you have an existing pressure switch you want to keep, just swap it onto the new tee. Wiring is the same.

Well-X-Trol® WX-203 Pr...$1,295.00
What You Actually Get for $1,295
Authentic Amtrol + Brass Tee + Warranty Service vs Amazon Tank-Only
What You Actually Get for $548 on Amazon
Online listings for the WX-203 start around $548 - but that price is for the bare tank only, with no pressure switch, no gauge, no relief valve, no boiler drain, and no brass tee to plumb it in. By the time you source those parts from a hardware store you are at $750-$850 for the tank alone, before shipping or warranty considerations.
Worse: per Amtrol's own Internet Sales Policy, every Well-X-Trol bought from an online source is ineligible for manufacturer warranty service. Most cheap online tanks also ship UPS/FedEx parcel where bladder unseating from drops is the #1 cause of dead-on-arrival units. And almost all are marked non-returnable because pressurized vessels fall under hazardous freight rules.

$0.51/day - tank, tee, freight, warranty
A 7-year tank service life works out to about $0.51/day for the complete package. The cheap online tank-only listing - even if you never have a problem - costs more once you add the missing parts and factor in the higher failure rate from poor packaging. And if you do have a problem, the cheap option has no warranty path. We have customers who learned that lesson the hard way and replaced their Amazon tank with ours after the bladder failed in year three.
What You Get From Mid Atlantic Water
Our $1,295 covers the genuine Amtrol WX-203 Pro Series tank, the complete TFP3-RV brass tee package (tee, gauge, switch, relief valve, drain), palletized LTL freight with full transit insurance, and 7-year warranty service handled by us through our Amtrol authorized distributor channel.
If anything goes wrong inside the warranty window, you call us. Not Amtrol, not a freight broker. We help you help you get a replacement, coordinate the replacement tank shipment, and follow up until it's resolved. You don't ship a 47 lb pressurized vessel back to Rhode Island.

29+Success Rate
We have spent 29+ years selling and servicing well water equipment, and the #1 complaint about online tank purchases is what happens when something goes wrong. Either the tank arrives dented from being tossed around in parcel shipping, or it fails in year 3 and the buyer discovers the warranty was effectively unhelpful because the seller can't help you get a replacement and the buyer is stuck calling Amtrol's manufacturer support line on their own.
We chose to sell the genuine Well-X-Trol Pro series, source it through an Amtrol authorized distributor channel, ship it palletized on freight, and stand behind every sale ourselves. That's what makes the price different, and that's what makes the guarantee real.
The Online Tank Buyer's Trap
+
Most online tank sellers - including Amazon - mark pressure tanks 'non-returnable' citing hazardous freight regulations. So if your tank arrives dented, leaking, or with a damaged bladder, you are stuck with it. The Amtrol warranty technically covers manufacturing defects but not shipping damage, and per their Internet Sales Policy, most online sellers can't help you get a replacement anyway. You are on your own.
And the warranty? Amtrol's policy explicitly states that Well-X-Trol items 'purchased from an e-commerce source are ineligible for manufacturer support including warranty coverage.' Read your seller's fine print before assuming the 7 year warranty applies to your purchase.
How Our Real Guarantee Works
1
Damaged In Transit or Defective
If the tank arrives damaged or fails inside the 7 year warranty window, you call us. Same day for transit damage, anytime for warranty issues.
2
We File the Claim
We help route it through our authorized Amtrol distributor channel on your behalf. Most replacements ship in 5 to 10 business days. We coordinate the replacement tank shipment to your address.
Refund If We Can't Make It Right
If we cannot resolve the issue in good faith, you get a full refund and we coordinate the freight pickup from your home. No restocking fees. No 'non-returnable' fine print. You should not have to gamble on whether a $1,300 well tank actually works.
I have personally sized and shipped thousands of Well-X-Trol tanks over the past 29 years. The WX-203 is the right tank for the vast majority of residential wells in the Mid Atlantic region. We package it carefully, we handle the warranty claims ourselves, and we are available 7 days a week if you need help during the install. That is the difference between buying from us and buying from a marketplace seller.
